Legendary singer to attend ceremony in Florida in August 2025
Royal Caribbean has chosen musical icon Diana Ross (picutred) to be godmother of Star of the Seas, the line’s second Icon Class ship set to make its debut in August 2025.
Ross will join what Royal Caribbean describes as a “longstanding maritime tradition of bestowing safekeeping onto the ship, its crew and the millions who will make memories on the ultimate family vacation for years to come”.
The American singer will attend the vessel's naming ceremony, taking place in the AquaTheater on board the ship at Port Canaveral, Florida, in August.
Royal Caribbean's International president and CEO Michael Bayley said he couldn’t imagine a “more fitting godmother” for Star of the Seas than Ross, who is a “true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together.”

A 12-time Grammy-nominated singer with hits that include I’m Coming Out, Baby Love and Chain Reaction, Ross said she was “truly honoured” to join the Royal Caribbean family.
“Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”
From 31 August, Star of the Seas will sail 7-night western and eastern Caribbean itineraries year-round from Port Canaveral, with stops to the line’s private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.
The 20-deck ship, which has capacity for 5,610 passengers across eight neighbourhoods, will feature many of the onboard experiences as Icon, including a Category 6 waterpark, the largest at sea, seven pools, 40 dining venues and entertainment including Back to the Future: The Musical.

Royal Caribbean how has three Icon Class ships, with newest vessel Legend of the Seas set to make its debut in August 2026, visiting a series of European destinations, before sailing year-round from Florida, on six-night western Caribbean and eight-night southern Caribbean vacations.
Legend will have more family rooms than any other Royal Caribbean ship, as well as even swimming pools, including the largest at sea (Royal Bay) and the line's biggest ice arena yet.
All three Icon vessels are powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and feature a line-up of environmental programmes that align with Royal Caribbean Group’s goal for a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.
