Accor opens first Mercure hotel in Aseer, Saudi Arabia

Midscale property has indoor swimming pool and outdoor terrace with city views

Hospitality giant Accor is strengthening its midscale footprint in Saudi Arabia with the opening of its first Mercure-branded hotel in Aseer, a mountainous region in the kingdom's south.

As the first international property in the Khamis Mushait area, the Mercure Khamis Mushait joins two other Mercure hotels in Saudi, including the recently opened Mercure Riyadh Al Anood in the kingdom’s capital, and the Mercure Makkah Aziziah in the Holy City.

To celebrate the launch, guests who are members of Accor’s loyalty programme can enjoy 20% savings on the best available rates until 31 August.

Located in the vibrant city of Khamis Mushait, the 93-key property provides easy access to Aseer's natural wonders and cultural attractions, with close proximity to Riyadh Road and popular tourist sights and just 15 km from Abha International Airport.

The property has seven accommodation types spread across five floors, including a Deluxe Suite that can accommodate three people with a king bed and sofa bed.

Some rooms come with city views and workspaces for executives and all have floor-to-ceiling windows. Interiors reflect the destination, from a colour palette inspired by the surrounding Aseer mountains to locally-inspired design details and artwork reflecting Saudi traditions.

For dining, guests can choose between around-the-clock room service and an elegant all-day restaurant serving international flavours, with dedicated menus for all tastes, from halal to health-conscious, vegetarian to salt-free.

There’s also a stylish cafe in the lobby for light bites and a spacious shisha cafe on the terrace, which also serves fresh food straight from the grill and offers sweeping views of the city.

Facilities include a state-of-the-art gym open 24/7, as well as an indoor swimming pool and a fully equipped meeting room.

Commenting on the opening, Paul Stevens, COO of Accor’s Premium, Midscale and Economy Division in the Middle East, said: “The rising demand for midscale and economy brands in Saudi Arabia’s secondary cities highlights the nation’s rapidly evolving hospitality landscape.”

Known for its cool mountain air, juniper forests and mountains, the Aseer region is already a popular summer retreat for Saudi residents, with its summer Aseer Season offering live performances, arts and family-friendly activities showcasing Saudi culture.

With plans to attract 8,000 tourists by 2030, almost double current numbers, the region is being further transformed into a year-round world-class destination with luxury hotels and attractions.
