Anantara to open first resort in Egypt

Red Sea coastal property will be part of wellness-focused destination

Minor Hotels is set to open an Anantara resort in Egypt, marking the luxury brand’s debut in the country and thirteenth property in the Middle East.

A partnership between Minor Hotels and Soma Bay Hotel Company SAE, the resort will be located in Egypt’s Soma Bay (pictured), an emerging coastal destination on the Red Sea that offers both “natural beauty and unique experiences”, according to Ibrahim El Missiri, CEO of Soma Bay Group.

Set on a pretty peninsula, just 45km south of Hurghada International Airport, the resort will be part of a 2,500-acre community positioned to become Egypt’s leading sports and wellness destination.

Already home to a sports arena with 12 tennis courts, an 18-hole Championship Gold golf course and a marina, the destination will offer an array of water-based leisure activities, from diving and sailing to kitesurfing, as well as one of the region’s largest naturally occurring spas.

Anantara has more than 50 properties across four continents, with 12 properties across three countries in the Middle East, including two in Oman, one in Qatar capital Doha and seven in the UAE, split between Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Sir Bani Yas Island.

Located on the UAE’s largest natural island with 11,000 animals, Anantara Al Sahel Resort recently upgraded its 30 pool villas with extended private pool decks, larger pools and refreshed interiors, while Anantara’s Al Yamm Villa Resort revamped its barasti-style villas.
