W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island appoints new GM

Spencer Wadama brings nearly 30 years of hospitality experience 

Marriott International has appointed Spencer Wadama as General Manager of W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island in the UAE capital.

The only hotel in the world built over a F1 race circuit, this 499-key iconic property with distinctive architecture and rooms and suites overlooking the track and the marina, plays a leading role in the upcoming F1 movie starring Brad Pitt.

No stranger to the UAE, Spencer has nearly three decades of industry experience spanning North America, Asia and the Middle East, and has spent the last 14 years working in Dubai.

He has held leadership roles at a number of luxury brands, including The Ritz-Carlton and Jumeirah Group, and served as GM at top luxury hotels including Armani Hotel Dubai, The Address Dubai Marina and The Palace Old Town.

Outside of the UAE, he rose through the ranks to become GM of The Ritz-Carlton, Sharm El Sheikh and also oversaw the launch of The Surrey Hotel and Spa in New York City.

On his LinkedIn profile, Wadama says he has been actively involved in 12 new hotel openings and “successfully built the foundation for some of the great hotels of the world”.

Prior to joining W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, Wadama was GM of Ennismore's SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences, taking the helm during pre launch. His innovative approach to guest engagement, sustainability initiatives and workplace culture included high-profile collaborations with artists including Akon and will.i.am.  

Wadama has also collaborated with local initiatives such as Operation Smile, Fresh on Table Farm and the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination.
